All 2024 election polls are now closed, leaving voters to wait and see whether Donald Trump or Kamala Harris will win a historic presidential election
Here’s what to know:
- What races are left to be called? Alaska, Arizona, two districts in Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Follow along on the AP’s results hub.
- Can Harris still win? The vice president still has a path to the White House through the Northern battleground states, but the map is getting less forgiving. Harris cannot lose Pennsylvania and reach 270 electoral votes.
- How does the AP call races? Instead of relying on crowd-sourcing or vulnerable technology, our 50-state network of local reporters have first-hand knowledge of their territories and trusted relationships with county clerks and other local officials. Read more about the AP’s role in elections.
A Decision Desk update on the state of the race
Trump has 248 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. Trump is leading in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The AP is awaiting late vote updates from Michigan’s Wayne County and Wisconsin’s Milwaukee County, two Democratic strongholds that present Harris’ only path to win either state. In Pennsylvania, her path is even more narrow.
The races are too early to call.
Voter Voice: ‘A slim chance is still a chance’
First-time voter Mariam Kolley didn’t expect her night to end without a visit from Vice President Harris.
But she said there’s still a chance — a slim chance but a chance nonetheless.
“Anything’s possible and I also still believe in the goodness of America so I can’t think and don’t want to believe that this is the end,” said Kolley, a freshman at Howard University.
“I have faith. I just hope my faith isn’t in vain.”
Hugs, calls and celebration at Trump’s watch party
Trump supporters gathered at his election night watch party were hugging one another, making calls, jumping up and down, and throwing their MAGA hats in the air every chance they got to celebrate as results continued to trickle in.
Guests are still arriving at the convention center in West Palm Beach.
