LAGOS-Engr. Dr. (Mrs) Felicia Nnenna Agubata was among the prominent personalities inducted into the prestigious Afrikanwatch Network Legendary Hall of Fame (ALHF) in June this year, having distinguished herself among equals in Nigeria and Africa, bridging the gap between professionalism and value cultural endowment- a path way gear towards sustaining nationhood. There is no doubt that, Agubata has distinguished herself with traceable capacity, character, including honour and strength.

Dr. Agubata, in almost all ramifications, has created a niche for herself, not just as a proficient engineer but, as an astute Deputy General Manager, Terrestrial Services at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA)- an Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) responsible for managing the Nigerian Airspace through the Provision, Installation and Maintenance of Navigational Aids, Communication Equipment and Surveillance Systems, with over 20 years experience in the system across many professional areas including , project management and communication engineering to mention but a few. By November 7, she will play host to Afrikanwatch Crew to share ideas on how young people can invest and develop themselves through mentorship and opportunities.

Engr. Agubata’s competence and dedication to duty makes her a model to professional colleagues , Peers and budding Engineers . Bosses attest to her industry and can-do spirit . She was a past Director of the International Federation of Air Traffic Electronics Association, (IFATSEA), African Region, Member, Board of Trustee, Women in Aviation Nigerian Chapter etc .

A recipient of 2010 Women in Aviation Scholarship (the only African among the ICAO five recipients) as well as 2007 Association of Women in Aviation Maintenance (AWAM) scholarship, featured in 2006 edition of AWAM newsletter. she was a past member, Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian (COREN), Member, Engineering accreditation Committee (EAC) of COREN, Council member, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Member, Technical Board of Directors of Prototype Engineering Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesha, Osun State and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE).

Dr. Felicia Agubata was the 15th President of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), from 2018 to 2019 and a passionate gender equity, Dream Gap/ STEM advocate, who has travelled to all the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria with her “Invent It, Build It “ initiative under APWEN . She awarded scholarships to 81 pupils from primary to University level courtesy of NNPC .  Additionally , NNPC supported her to construct science and technology laboratories in seven states ( primary schools  ) across the zones in Nigeria during her tenure as APWEN President .

Some of the labs are fully completed and others are work in progress. Engr Agubata has contributed in building the capacity of STEM teachers across the six geopolitical zones in partnership with University of West, Scotland through the “Invent It, Build It “ program sponsored by Royal Academy of Engineering UK ,  in partnership with University of West of Scotland (UWS) and collaboration with Institution of Engineering Technology(IET), UK  as the 2019 GCRF African Catalyst grant awardee and presently 2022 awardee for  SheEngineer 30% club  project sponsored by the Royal academy of Engineering UK.

Dr. Agubata is the recipient of APWEN Biennial Woman award 2018-2019 (for unparalleled contribution to women capacity development and girl -child education) and APWEN BIENNIAL Award 2020-2021 (for the greatest impact on the association’s achievements). She is a recipient of Aviators Africa Tower Awards as a Change maker for year 2021 & 2022 under STEM category.

This great woman of honour has an intense desire to mentor and guide young STEM students in achieving their goals, even as her drive for engineering solutions are compulsive. She enjoys percolating technical knowledge within professional groups and outside. Felicia is a  graduate of Computer Science & Engineering (2nd Class, Upper Division), and Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Communication Engineering), 2014, with a distinction. she holds a Doctorate degree in Communication Engineering, 2019 . She is happily married with children.
