LAGOS-Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos has unveiled the fifty Billion Naira (N50B) Endowment Fund Logo, which according to the Rector of the College, Engr. Femi Omokungbe, is to address the challenges of infrastructural decay, absolute and non-functional equipment confronting the Institution. Omokungbe however, noted that the legacy projects supported by the Governing Council led by Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN will enhance more classrooms, lecture halls, workshops and laboratories , books and scholarships with the intention to take out more of the youths off the streets and ensure the more efficient and effective human capacity development of her graduands-to compete globally in all endeavours.
On his part, Chairman of the Endowment fund raising Committee, Inyang-Udoh, Deputy Rector, Administration, hinted that for education to be total and sustainable, with the prevailing realities, adequate funding is necessary. “It is no longer news to discerning people, especially the operators of education, that government in Nigeria and other parts of the world can no longer adequately fund education particularly the Tertiary Education. This is because education at Tertiary level is becoming very expensive. However, the fact that education is becoming expensive does not mean that, the Managers, Operators and Learners must abandon or run away from it.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Taiwo Olayinka, Chairman/Chief Executive officer, SIFAX Group of companies, represented by Mr. Bode Ojeniyi, who is a Group Executive director in SIFAX expressed satisfaction and the idea behind such initiative, stating that with it, the College will surpass its challenges. The funding raising will hold on September 15 in Lagos under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The unveiling witnessed member of the College management, lecturers, students, Alumni Association of the College among others.
