LAGOS-It was a moment of tributes and accolades to the immediate past Registrar of Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos, Dr. Kayode Momodu, when a lecture titled, Law and ethnics, evolving new culture in public service for good governance, was organized in his honour, having distinguished himself while in office.

The lecture was delivered by the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, who eulogized Momodu for a meritorious service and for building valuable working ethnics and practices, while charging staff of the College to inscribe in their minds those sterling qualities the former Registrar displayed and represented during his tenure and ensure the law and ethics he projected including the culture of good governance.
“I enjoin the registry and the college not to. Permit a vacuum to emerge by his completion of the statutory Five-year Tenure as Registrar of the college. I aspect his staff and students to also imbibe. And display the endearments and empowerments of his mentorship for the Good interest and progress of this college and our nation” .
Detailing on the lecture, Owasanoye, who was represented by Barr. Abbra Udofia, director of Studies and Reviews of the Commission, stated that ICPC has maintained a very high level of ethnic and principles when it comes to corruption, stating that, despite laws on Anti-corruption, money laundering and abuse of office, public officials continue to be indicted and prosecuted for fraud, corruption, gratification theft of public fund, misappropriation and diversion of public funds and property. The ICPC Chairman further reiterated the number of prosecuted persons:
“There are egregious abuses of the public procurement Act 2007, fiscal responsibility Act, Federal character principles, code of conduct of public officers, money laundering (prohibition) Act, economic and financial crimes commission (Establishment)Act 2004 And the corrupt practices and other related offenses Act 2000. In 2022, the ICPC prosecuted 64 persons 22 of them were public Officers (19 persons were convicted and 6 of these were public officers). In 2023 so far, 40 persons are being prosecuted and 9 are public officers (10 persons have been convicted and 3 of them were public officers). Huge Funds and assets have also been seized from indicted persons and public Officials, Apparently some public officers yet are inclined to corruption and Corrupt practices”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the occasion, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Governing Council Chairman of the College, represented by Dr. Peter Okoli said: Dr.Momodu has served with integrity, transparency and honesty. This is the values found in him. “He has done well” he stressed.
On his part, the Rector of the College, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, used the occasion as a farewell, to principal officers, that have served the College meritoriously. “It is good to recognize good services”. He noted.
The Rector hinted however, that Dr. Momodu was appointed in 2018,and ended his service as Registrar in Match, 2023, even as he established basic learning ethics in the Registry, which has become a great service to the college.
“Good governance comes on the principle of good ethnics and public administration. We must uphold the ethnic of good governance that bring about justice, fairness and equity”
Abdul challenged all to see to the good service that will bring about a better nation, even as he noted that henceforth principal officers in the College will be celebrated after their tenure ends.
In same vein, elder brother to the Celebrant, Alhaji Ganiyu Adeleke Momodu, a retired permanent secretary, Ogun state Civil service, said, he is not surprised of the personality of his younger brother as ethnic building runs in their family. “When Kayode took over as Registrar, I knew, transformation and performance will be the watchword. Yes, I am sure that he would perform to the best of his ability and I knew he would succeed in the assignment given to him.. So I am not disappointed about what I am hearing about him today and I have to say that the family is very proud of him” This was corroborated by Hon. Justice N. E. Agbelu.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a compendium in the Celebrant’s honour and award of excellence presented to him by the College. The event took place at Yusuf Grillo Auditorium, Art Complex of the College.
