Mr. Donald Trump, the President of United States on Friday (previous day) finally placed immigration limitations on citizens of six countries, which Nigeria was among. This is coming after social media (s) were agog of an alleged denial of visa to the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel International, Bishop David Oyedepo, which the US embassy blatantly denied.
Meanwhile, countries placed on travel ban include Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan and Tanzania. This was according to US administration officials who noted:
“The president’s decision is the product of a comprehensive and systematic assessment that was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, as well as in partnership with other federal agencies,”

Trump’s decision was as a result of those countries’ unwillingness or inability to adhere to certain baseline identity management, information sharing and national security and public safety assessment criteria that were established by the department in 2017, the official added.
It could be recalled that the US president had in January 2017 nursed the idea of placing some countries on watch list by restricting them of travelling to US after security reports on those countries show red alert, especially violent countries mostly from Islam. However, with the new directive of restriction of those countries, it will now totally take effect from February 22. Survey lists India, Israel, and Nigeria as Trump’s strongholds.
In a similar note, one of the
officials stressed that the directive by the President would only target
certain visa categories and would focus primarily on people seeking to move to
the United States rather than those simply merely visiting. The reason is that
the President Trump slogan “We have to be safe. Our country has to be safe,” is
our priority, he added.
