PORT HARCOURT-The Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill, has charged the University Community and its alumni to continue to play the path of patriotism in sustaining the University while appreciating their contributions so far in strengthening the Institution’s capacity and development:
“The University in retrospect cannot but appreciate you all for the strategic initiatives, ceaseless efforts and goodwill donations. We accomplished so much because we worked as a team”
This was contained in the VC’s New Year message sent to Afrikanwatch earlier today. Professor Owunari therefore reiterated various accomplishments of the University, even as he hoped for a greater 2023.
“Yes, we had various notable achievements and meritorious awards in 2022 but we are looking forward to a more prosperous university with a renewed zest and incredible capabilities for global relevance.”
“We therefore urge members of staff, students, and other stakeholders of the University of Port Harcourt to leverage on our collective strength and strive for stability and competence on the job in line with international best practices of this Info-Tech age. To do this, staff must endeavour to update their skills and get ready for the flight to global best practices”
The VC however paid tributes to the following for their goodwill:
On behalf of the Governing Council and the University Management, We appreciate our Past Vice-Chancellors, Professors Sylvanus Cookey, Kelsey Harrison , Theo Vincent, Nimisoere Briggs, Don Baridam, Joseph Ajienka, Ndowa Lale for their passion and impact, We would like to also appreciate our distinguished Alumni Dr. Goodluck Jonathan GCFR, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, Gov. Nyesom Wike, Chief Timipre Sylva and others, our indefatigable friends, our honorary doctoral awardees Prof. Nimi Briggs, Sir Chukwudozie Daniel OON, Dr. Richard Nyong OON and several others whose impact have improved our institution. The University of Port Harcourt celebrates you all and wishes you a fresh start with renewed energy and confidence throughout the New Year.
