A former Minister of State for Agriculture and Water Resource under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was also Regional Representative for Africa on Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), under the United Nations, Otunba Bamidele Dada, OON, has spoken passionately about the current situation in Nigeria, stressing the wrong steps taken by former President Muhammadu Buhari in the last eight years, that has taken the country far backward.

The Octogenarian noted bluntly, that the hunger in the land is unnecessary, because as a minister, he coordinated the green revolution on national programme for food security that provided succor to Nigeria, and other African countries. Hear him:

“There should be continuity in government. That is how it is supposed to be.  But each one comes and abandon what the others have done.  During the green revolution, I championed the National Programme for Food Security, but you see, immediately we left government, all those presidential initiatives and so on were dropped, and you know what has happened in the last eight years. The country has been destroyed-is like starting all over again , no security, no economic plan, nothing at all, so, I support president Tinubu and I pray he succeeds.”

Otunba Dada

Mr. Dada, however pointed out that he strongly believes in Green Revolution, a focal point for food security, because those are the programmes that gave him national and international recognitions, even as he wants measures.

“What Federal government need is to take positive and pragmatic action, but what we see nowadays is, looting of public funds, insecurity which prevent farmers of farming.”

Meanwhile, a fourth republic Senator, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial district, Femi Okurounmu,  has said, Nigeria needs total repackaging if meaningful progress is to be made. He stated that, as the country continues to battle how to reclaim its identity, current leaders must make effort to reopen the 2014 National conference report, even if it is not the complete answer to the country’s woe.

Sen. Okurounmu

“The National conference of 2014 is part of the solution, not the complete solution. I am part of an organization now, we have put up complete package on what Nigeria need if it to get up again. The country needs a complete package of reform and restructuring,  The National conference does not contain all that.”
