Lagos-A Retired Director of the Department of State Services, (DSS), Dennis Amachree, MON, has berated the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, now Minister of the  Federal Capital Territory, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Wike, over the political crisis rocking the state, noting that since Wike left power, he has no authority to still control  Governor  Siminalayi Fubara, who he supported. Amachree described the political drama in Rivers state as very shameful, as he summarized his views:

“The whole drama exposes the corrupt personality of Nyesom Wike. The decamped legislators have exposed themselves, as they have constitutionally lost their seats in the Assembly. Gov. Fubara is vindicated and gaining support by the day.  His advisers are doing a good job in this chess game. President will soon dump Wike for his loquaciousness and nuisance value to the administration.”

The former DSS boss ended by saying “Grab some popcorn….this movie just started”

In a similar vein, a retired Assistant-Comptroller-General of Immigration, a PDP stakeholder and also an elder statesman, Sir. (Dr) Igoni William Park JP, has caution politicians never to throw the state into serious political chaos. This is coming  in  response to Afrikanwatch Network message to him via his whatsapp line, but  he stressed:

“We need peace in Rivers State, and the dramatic personae in this saga are politicians and their supporters who are struggling for the soul of the state.”

Why Rivers State AG/Comm.of justice resigned-Ex-Wike’s Commissioner

New twist as emerged why the Rivers state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice resigned. In a telephone conversation with former Governor Wike’s Aide, who pleaded anonymity, said, that, the Attorney General took the right decision, as he was never ready to work against his boss, who is now Minister of Federal Capital Territory. This is even as he wants Governor Fubara to fully take charge of his governance and never allow anyone to control him.

The Ex-Commissioner who also fell apart with  Wike some years back, stressed that, if he speaks on the political crisis rocking the state, his perspective will be unique.

“I will have a unique perspective because I worked with him (Wike). That is one of the reasons I haven’t commented yet, because things are getting into a new face now. I didn’t want to comment initially because I don’t want to say something, and then tomorrow this same people will be laughing and  will be making up, and then you become a bad person. I have experience in this things but it seems as if things are reaching like  a point of no return. So, let me see how things will be in another one week or two before I begin to comment.”

“The Attorney General just resigned. He was redundant and  I learnt the court ex parte  gotten by the state, the Attorney General played no role because he was imposed on the governor by Wike.”

The Ex-Aide noted that the Attorney-General  was to champion all legal battles but he never did, so, his resignation is the best.  “It is possible, he was asked to resign.” He alleged.

Few hours after Wike’s Aide made a revelation that more Wike loyalists in Fubara’s government would drop off because some of them have already disrespected the governor, four more commissioners resigned, they are Chukwuemeka Woke (Special Duties), Alabo George-Kelly (Works), Isaac Kamalu (Finance) and Inime Chinwenwo Aguma (Social Welfare and Rehabilitation), as they cited that their resignations are personal, while they expressed gratitude to the state governor. Our investigation shows the four are strong allies of the FCT Minister.

Our further findings also reveals that Governor Fubara doesn’t want to announce the sack of Wike’s loyalists as they are advised to quietly resign. It could be recall  some weeks back, President Bola Tinubu had tried to break peace between Fubara and Wike, but collapsed as Wike continued to threaten the governor never to touch his own political structure in the state.

Just as his (Wike) Ex-Aide alluded that, how many people can survive threatening a governor blatantly. “Governor Fubara has been on the defensive, if it were to be on the offensive, Wike probably would be in some where else now.” He concluded.

Meanwhile, the 25 lawmakers who recently defected to the All  Progressives Congress (APC), defied the court order by a Rivers State High Court presided by Justice MW Danagogo and had a parallel plenary while PDP wrote to INEC to quickly swing into action by conducting fresh election into the already declared vacancy seats.

The lawmakers led by pro-Wike Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, held their sitting last Friday, at the Assembly Quarters, while the governor was signed into law the 2024 appropriation bill witnessed by pro-Fubara lawmakers led by Edison Ehie, as the Speaker.

During the week, the state House of Assembly was demolished, as the state government cited reasons to rebuild the structure after explosion rocked the building few weeks ago. The drama in Rivers state continues as political observers say,  more trouble and political tension await the state.
