ANAMBRA-At the just concluded 8th International Conference of the Association for the Promotion of African Studies (APAS), held between 22nd to 25th May, 2024, at Chisco Transportation Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ejikemeuwa J.O. Ndubisi was overwhelmingly voted as the new APAS President and took over the reins of the budding Association from its pioneer President and Founder, Distinguished Prof. Ikechukwu Anthony Kanu (OSA).
Since the inception of APAS in 2016, Prof. Ejikemeuwa, one of the pioneers of the Association had served as the APAS Secretary meritoriously and excellently. The reviews of his secretarial discharge of duties have been top-notch and satisfactory. This served as the background and prelude to his becoming APAS members’ overwhelming choice for the coveted presidency. A position which in his acceptance speech, he saw as a call to service, despite other retinue of duties and positions, he superintends, at the moment.
Prof. Ejikemeuwa is a professor of Philosophy at Tansian University, Umunya, with specialty in Metaphysics and a thorough bred academic trained in the finest academic tradition. He obtained his PhD in Philosophy from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in 2014 and has been an academic for more than 15 years. He has published widely in both local and international journals and has held many academic positions in Tansian University, including being the one-time Head of Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Director of Continuing Education Program (CEP) and presently, the Director of Academic Planning of the University.
He is a highly vaunted resource person and an organizer par excellence. His ability and capacity have reverberated within Tansian University and beyond. He recently delivered his Inaugural Lecture, at Tansian University, becoming the third Professor of the University to do so and he delivered the lecture to critical acclaim and shower of encomiums.
This new position as President of APAS is another added responsibility for which hopefully, he and his elected team will deliver. APAS as an association of African researchers and Academicians aims to take African scholarship to the global front, creating visibility for African scholars through their published works and to push towards epistemic contribution from the African clime.
Prof. Ejikemeuwa understanding the task ahead is ever poised to take APAS to greater heights with the vision of making APAS the number one academic association in Nigeria, Africa and beyond. Therefore, his incumbency is ever committed to bringing about a sustainable coalition for African pride and scholarship.
