Lagos-Earlier in the mid-day, the impeached speaker, Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon, Mudashiru Obasa, stormed the Assembly complex with heavy security men as he declared that he had resumed office as the leader of the parliament.
After his declaration, he went straight to the speaker’s office. This would be his first time appearance since his remover from office on January 13, 2025.
Obasa, who spoke confidently, said “I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” Obasa was quoted to have said.
Meanwhile, as captured by Punch Newspaper, it reports that, following Obasa’s return, Segun Ajiboye, Chief Press Secretary to Mojisola Meranda, Deputy Speaker who took over when Obasa was removed, confirmed the development to Punch, alleging that Obasa and his team had forcefully entered the office.
In a similar vein, the embattled speaker’s supporters did not leave any stone unturned, as they gathered at the Assembly complex, holding placards and while chanting songs of solidarity in his favour.
It could be recall that the Hon, Meranda’s security were withdrew earlier today following Obasa’s presence.
Meanwhile, a reliable source who spoke to Afrikanwatch Network in the afternoon (Name withheld) today, said, that the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) members in their resolution had said that Speaker Mojisola Meranda should resign, while Obasa will assume duty for two weeks, and then resign while a neutral person will be elected speaker.
The source also noted that, the decision is to still make the impeached speaker remain relevant in Lagos politics. “If that is not done, in the next ten years, Obasa political future would go into oblivion.”
However, the source said, that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu may have taken side with the embattled Speaker, but he should have known better that this is politics. He however said, that, if Senator Bola Tinubu is not the president of Nigeria, Obasa’s story would have ended outrightly.
