As the Nigerian Defence Headquarters alert the public on the emergence of another terrorist organization, known as Lukarawas, operating in Sokoto and Kebbi State, North west, Nigeria, concerns have therefore risen high. Meanwhile, Intelligence report says the group came as Islamic preachers, pretending to be helping locals within the villages and its environs on security issues, with deceptive motives of collecting fines and loyalties .
Reacting to the circumstance is a security expert and a former Assistant Director, Department of State Services, (DSS), Mr. Dennis Amachree, MON, who narrowed his views down to three, pin pointing the broken relationship between Nigerian government and that of Niger, where military coup took place some months ago, even as he wants the military to quickly dislodge the dangerous sect. His words:
“The emergence of the Lukarawas terrorist group in northern Nigeria is a consequence of three major issues. First is the broken relationship with the new government in Niger. Second is the porous border, allowing for free movement of arms and people. Thirdly, these Lukawaras, just the bandits are taking advantage of the power vacuum and lack of governance in remote areas, which we call ungovernable spaces. The good news is that the security agencies are quick to identify their presence and they are on top of it, and dislodging them.”
Recall that during the week, Major General Edward Buba, Director, Defence Media Operations while briefing a news conference in Abuja said that a new terror group has emerged, as the Nigerian troop at making efforts to disband them.
“Troops are confronted with a new terrorist sect in the North-West. This sect is known as Lukawaras, the Lukawaras are affiliated to terrorists in the Sahel particularly from Mali and Niger Republic. They began incursion into Northern part of Nigeria, mainly Sokoto and Kebbi states, and like I mentioned, they came in from Niger and Mali axis,”
