ENUGU-The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo , Chief Nnia Nwodo, has reiterated why Igbos across Nigeria must not be involved in vote buying; he therefore warns against such act, noting that it would do more harm than good. Chief Nwodo wonders why Nigeria that is supposed to be modest, is now becoming a laughing stock in election matters. The Ohanaeze leader, therefore issued a notice of tour from state to state to sensitize Ibos to come out en mass to exercise their fundamental rights, noting that, “gone are the days when they would sit at home and be predicting election results, instead of been part of the exercise”.
This was made known by the Deputy Publicity Secretary of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Mr. Chuks Ibegbu , yesterday, in a statement issued in Enugu. He also disclosed that Ohanaeze frowns at the infiltration of foreigners into the country with the hope of participating in the elections. His statement
“Ohanaeze warns against foreigners voting in the forthcoming elections. Citizens of Niger, Chad, Cameroun, Mali and other African neigbouring countries that have been infiltrating Nigeria of recent should desist from their interference in Nigeria territorial integrity and sovereignty”
“INEC, security agents and other persons
concerned with the election should please keep to the rules or have themselves
to blame if things go awry. Ohanaeze
will be sending monitors and mobilisers all over the country to ensure that Igbos
exercise their franchise where ever they reside. “The reason for all these is
that the 2019 election will either make or mar Nigeria,” .
