The issue of racism issue has remained with us since the time of the slave trade where the Europeans bought blacks to work for them on their plantations and bend down to them as slaves. This cling to superiority has continued even after the abolition of slave trade to date.
The “Nigger Hunting License” went viral sometime in 1995 but the Government of Missouri denied to have ever issued out such a document to anyone. It all started on May 25, 2020 when a police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota animalistically killed George Floyd, an unarmed Black man. This has sparked worldwide Protests and demonstrations especially in the US, where the act took place, calling for an end to racism and police brutality in one of the largest mobilisations. Since then, the three players in the gruesome killing of Floyd, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao have been charged to court while the world await for justice. Meanwhile, CNN had reported that following the charges first brought against Derek Chauvin, the officer who pinned Floyd to the ground by his neck for nearly 9 minutes was also charged. Chauvin, 44, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors alleged him with a more serious count of second-degree murder. Lane and Kueng helped restrain Floyd, while Thao stood nearby.
Racism and Slavery
The racist battle has continued and sometimes perpetrated in the open, whereas most times it is implied. In the United States of America for instance, objects with racist themes were produced, created and sold weekly. These objects are racially insensitive and demeaning in direct ways. They however have become objects to teach the black community more about tolerance and the promotion of social justice.
