“Yes. In Nigeria, they say, they have government, but citizens provide light and water for themselves, bad roads and decayed infrastructures is everywhere. It is only when the heads lead by example that things will change”

Interacting with Afrikanwatch Network at the weekend is a Nigerian, Mr. Sule Egbomeade, who lives in Lombady, a Province called Sondrio. He spoke on how things are working in Italy and the steps taken by the government to make life easy for her citizenry. He also said that, even if Nigerian government provides means to leave Italy, he wouldn’t.   Italy so far has recorded 178, 972 cases, 23, 660 deaths, and 47, 055 recovered from the coronavirus.

Mr. Egbomeade, who noted that Italy is seen as the epic center of the dreadful coronavirus pandemic because of how  the virus entered most places in the country before government started the advocacy for proactive measures until the lockdown. That was what happened, he hinted.

“But sincerely, the country has a very good health system and the rate of infections are going down fast gradually.  So far, we have spent close to a month and half at home. On the area of palliative measures, the government pays her citizens what they call disocupato to cushion the effect of the disease.  ‘To stay at home. Like me, am being paid what they called disocupato. Meaning, if u are working and work just stop for not your own reason, government will be paying you for three to six months. One third of your pay. But Italians are being paid normal salaries every month in this pandemic” Here the government is up to standard. We are okay even staying at home. We are being given the necessary palliatives. Let me tell you, in Nigeria, nothing seems to be working. Yes, nothing is working in Nigeria, and I am very much okay here”.

Asked if the Federal government of Nigeria  make efforts to evacuate her citizens from highly infectious country like Italy, whether he would be willing to use the opportunity to come back home, Mr.  Egbomeado, noted that, he cannot come back to the country, “come where, no, Nigeria is a virus if everyone there is infected. We need organic movement in Nigeria Everywhere is bad, information is needed. Until you view from outside, then u would see and understand well. Yes. In Nigeria, they say, they have government, but citizens provide light and water for themselves, bad roads and decayed infrastructures is everywhere. It is only when the heads lead by example that things will change” he added.

He stressed that Nigeria needs a revolution and a change of attitude in leadership.  “Yes. I want to make changes. Changes and sanitization are needed in the country on Economy, security. Agriculture and Education. Nigeria needs to forget about religion and ethnicity.  Human first. Every others follow. Our commonwealth is manipulated by a few people, which is corruption. And then, citizens should obey the law. For instance, here in Italy, if you disobey the law, no security agent will kill anybody, they will arrest you, and you pay a fine of four hundreds euro, nobody is exempted. Just like that”
