ABUJA-In a way to curb the continuous widespread of the Coronavirus in the country, the Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to bringing the situation to normalcy and ensure that the virus is completely wiped out. To this effect, Chinese medical experts would soon arrive Nigeria with the world uncommon supplies to fight the fresh Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and use the medium to establish guidelines in the country.

This was according to the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, who made this known during a briefing at the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja. It could be recalled that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), had reported that 18-man team of Chinese medical professionals would arrive Nigeria few days from now, with a consignment of globally scarce medical supplies to complement  government’s efforts and build capacity to curtail the COVID-19 outbreak that have claimed thousands of lives globally.

The arrival of the Chinese companies in Nigeria, as expected will see a donation of the following; personal protective equipment, medical consumables, over one million surgical masks for health workers and ICU ventilators, valued at over $100,000, all sourced in the face of global scarcity of these items. While entry the country, the Chinese medical experts are expected to do confirmatory test before resuming any medical duty. This was according to the Health Minister.

He noted that the government was in discussion with manufacturers over the possibility of producing masks and ventilators in the country. On his part, the chairman of the Presidential Task Force for the control of COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) said that until the report by the PTF was completed, they would not be able to speculate if the 14 days lockdown would be extended or not.

Mustapha therefore, stressed further, that whatever decision the president makes, would be based on the information available to him. Speaking on the issue of masks, he said that they were busy churning out masks in Cross River State.

“There is so much demand all over the world. If we can get our local industries to come on stream, that will do a lot for employment. “Innoson is assembling motor vehicles. But they are not manufacturing. We shouldn’t trivialize the issue of manufacturing ventilators. “Let’s go out and procure it. We won’t wait for any manufacturer to assemble,” he explained. On the incoming Chinese doctors, Vanguard had reported that the SGF had advised Nigerians not to allow sycophants to distract them on the coming of Chinese doctors to help Nigeria. His words. “Chinese doctors are not accredited in Nigeria, so they cannot practice. They are only coming to share their experiences “Chinese were experts on COVID-19 because it started with them, he added.
