ABUJA-In a way of tackling unemployment in the country, the Federal Government of Nigeria, has deemed it fit to work assiduously with the British Government to reduce the rate of joblessness in the country, and provide greater opportunities for her youth.

This was made known by the Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Festus Keyamo, when Mr. Dominic Williams, Political Counsellor, British High Commission visited him in Abuja. The minister said, that Nigerian government is taking necessary step to end the situation.
His words: “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” The Minister noted that FG, is opening up other sectors of the economy, as part of its efforts to diversify from oil, which is geared towards job creation in the country, and this will include empowering individuals to go back to the farming system, through the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP), as well as activating the mines and steel sector.
Keyamo , reiterated further , that government has put in more effort through the National Directorate of Employment, and have empowered a lot of young Nigerians with training and technical skills, including artisan skill, which make them to be self-reliance and also engage others. ‘Empowering the youths with the acquisition of skills has also reduced the practice of importing such skills from other countries. The problem of unemployment can only be solved, not through direct employment by the government, but by training people to acquire basic skills by which they can be self-employed and also employ others,” he stressed”
Meanwhile, Mr. William said, that there are ways, Nigeria can collaborate with the British government to end unemployment, and British is ready to assist in this regard, and create job opportunities for Nigerian youth.
