ENUGU-With the sudden assassination of a Catholic Priest, Rev. Father. Paul Offu on Thursday, August1, has thrown the entire Catholic communities into a state of mourning, and the situation is generating tension. Meanwhile, the State Government has called an emergency meeting to ascertain situation through the State Secretary to the government, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, who was not particular on the sudden meeting, but from a reliable source noted that the meeting is connected to the killing of a Catholic Priest, that the State Government will not allow the breakdown of law and order but will curtail the situation.

Backgroundly, Father Offu, comes from Okpatu in Udi Local Government Area of the Enugu State, until his assignation by suspected herdsmen. He was the parish priest of St. James the Greater Parish, Ugbawka in Nkanu West Local Government.
However, the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi confirmed the killing of the Fr. Offu. Achi stressed that the deceased was taken away and killed along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of the state, stressing that situation have become uncontrollable and unbearable as another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ikechukwu Ilo escaped assassination on June 19, 2019, wondering what kind of a country Nigeria is.

The Director of Communication hinted that Father Ilo was still trying to recover from the gun shots he received along Numeh- Nenwe road in Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state. His words “As we speak, Catholic priests in Enugu are on the streets demonstrating over these incidences,”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu Police Command, Mr Ebere Amarizu confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing to unravel the perpetrators who killed the catholic-priest..
Meanwhile, five Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen,along the Ijebu-Ode axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. This was disclosed by the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Friday (today) while giving a talk at the Redeemed Camp. He said, “As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference, let us all pray for their safe release”
