A retired Director, Nigerian Army legal services, Col. (Barr) Abayomi Dare rtd, has advised Nigerians against the nationwide protest scheduled to hold from August 1-10, noting the security implications. This is even as he said that protest as enshrined in the 1999 constitution is a fundamental human right.
The retired senior military officer stressed, as long as it is a peaceful one without any disorder, then, it can go ahead but it will become an issue when hoodlums’ hijack what is meant to be peaceful with good intentions. I will just appeal that Nigerians should exercise some restraint, patient and understanding especially when the president is realizing that all is not well with the country. I’m not saying things are rosy, because even in the market, even the blind man knows the situation of the country is nothing to write home about. So there is need for the government to come out with urgent solutions to help citizens especially the common man in the street.
Meanwhile, Col. Dare retd who responded to the question that, it seems the government has not learnt lessons from history, wonder why leaders allow history to repeat itself and alluded that, it is because of human’s nature, but wants President Tinubu to address the nation urgently:
“We must be proactive and for me I will advise the president at this point in time to come out and make a broadcast and an appeal to Nigerians. He should have a national broadcast on all media platforms to reach out the masses and citizens” he concluded.
