ABIA-Giving details on how a fired Nigerian
Army General was arrest over illegal arms deal is the Commissioner of Police, Abia State, Mr Ene Okon, who noted on Monday
that the State command has five persons in its custody in the last 10
months.

The Commissioner noted that the Army General’s name will remain unknown for now but stressed that his arrest became necessary last week over some firearms dealing in Aba, the commercial city of the state.
He made this known when giving accounts of his achievement in a news briefing in his office. Mr. Okon further hinted that the command arrested 127 armed robbery suspects, 114 kidnap suspects and 150 alleged cult members during the period. “We have arrested 20 persons for alleged motorcycle snatching, recovered 22 stolen motorcycles, rescued 79 kidnap victims, and recovered 88 vehicles, 120 firearms and 528 ammunitions and 658 suspects are currently facing prosecution for different criminal charges”

The highlight of the briefing included parading of 25 persons arrested in the last one-and-a-half weeks in connection with different armed robbery, car and tricycles snatching in Ubakala Umuahia; the suspects were 12-member syndicate that allegedly specialised in the theft and dismantling of cars, which they sold to ready buyers in parts. “This syndicate steals people’s vehicles at gunpoint and within 10 minutes to 20 minutes, they would dismantle them that it would be difficult for the owner to recognise.“
“They will in turn sell the dismantled parts of the vehicles to buyers, who are already waiting at their hideout in Ubakala. However” 12 members of the syndicate were arrested, while the hideout had been razed down, but the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) busted a notorious cartel that dealt in hard drugs at Ntigha in Isialangwa North council area of the state, they made some arrests and recovered large quanties of cocaine and cannabis sativa, while two leaders of the cartel, who are natives of the area, reportedly escaped. The Police boss stressed, the suspects would be properly arraigned at the end of the ongoing investigation and further paid tributes to the eight gallant officers, who lost their lives during operation while on duty and pray for the repose of their soul. He assured Abians of maximum security during the Christmas period and advised trouble makers, and those that will unleased mayhem to quickly pack their load and relocate to another planet.
