The apex Urhobo group, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU)-a socio-cultural organization of the entire urhobo people; the 5th largest ethnic nationality in Nigeria established in 1930 primarily to foster unity and promote the identity, culture and interest of the Urhobo people at home and diaspora will gather in Urhobo Cultural Centre, Uvwiamuge, Effurun, Patani Highway, Agbarho, Delta State to celebrate her existence as it clocks 90.
In a statement released by the chairman, 90th commemoration, contact and mobilization sub-committee of the Union, Olorogun (Dr) Ebenezer Okorodudu JP, noted that the event will start from November 29 to December 3, 2021, as the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is expected to deliver a lecture at the opening ceremony tomorrow while the Governor of State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is a special guest of honour. Meanwhile, prominent Urhobos, including the 24 kings from the Urhobo kingdoms and others are expected to grace the occasion. Okorodudu reiterated that various cultural display will be parts of the celebration. Also, Solidarity calls from other ethnic groups and within will include, Afenifere, a Pan Socio-cultural organization of the Yoruba extraction, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Arewa Consultative Forum, others are Melt-Belt Forum, Ijaw National Council, (INC), NNU, IDU, ILOT, Urhobo Social Club, the Urhobo Histoical Society, the Urhobo Studies Association, Urhobo Solidarity Club, Atamu Social Club, Urhobo Renaissance Society, Erhuvwe R’Urhobo etc
