DELTA-The convener of save the Girl Child Advocacy, Pastor Fidelis Onakpoma, who is the executive director of Initiative for Revolution Strategy and Development, officially launched, Save the Girl Child Project and book. The launching ceremony which took place during the weekend, at Ekrejeta civic centre, Opposite Campus one, Abraka, Delta State University, was attended by men and women from different walks of life. The event with a theme “Sexuality education, issues and prospects in the Niger Delta” was chaired by Chief Amb, (Dr) Odet Emo JP, Chairman, Police community relations committee of Delta State.
In her speech, Emo, said that, sex education is a vital part in academics and should be given maximum attention, especially girl-child. She noted that child abuse has become a global phenomenon, and efforts should be doubled to curb the situation, while, prevention against teenage pregnancy in our society can be averted.
She further commended the convener of the project, Pastor Fidelis Onakpoma, for putting up such event to re-orient the society about sex education. “You train a girl child, you train a multitude and they should not be neglected in every home in the society”.
While reviewing the book, Prof. O.D Ogisi, stressed the importance of it, that the book, will create awareness to teenagers, youth and parent on how to raise and bring up a better generation for the society and also to eradicate child abuse and teenagers pregnancy, stressing the book is enriched with six education and it should be given to a girl child even a boy child needs it, to enable them to make the right decision about sex.
Prof. Ogisi reiterated further: “a child who is brought up by a single parent does not know what a family is and what it constitutes, even when the child grow up, he will not know the interplay between a father and a mother because both act on different capacities which will make the child to suffer deficiency and most children with such background finds it difficult to manage their home. Also parents should also give people in the society like churches, the room to impact on their children positively”.
Speaking with our responding is the Author and convener of the program, Pastor Onakpoma, who said that what prompted him to write the book is his strong desire for a better society, stressing that he is a Pastor but has social concern for a better society
He said the essentiality and ,immense values of the book will solve some of the trending moral ill and other social vices among the young people, especially to the unearth issue and challenges confronting girl child in our society, characterized by victims of teenage pregnancy and amperage. “The trend is worsen by the increasing rate of lack of parental care concern and needful of no attention to sexuality education by various act of the society. Every day we see the determined and dignity of girls and women facing down the toughest challenges, we see real adversities and the power of people to achieve but to no avail, everyone has a part to play to avert this problem” he noted
Other present at the event are Mr. Wilson Aka, cod 9, Comr. Bethel Edavie Abemrere, development practitioner Dr. Wisdom Paul Esegbue, Convener Wisdom class and others.
