OROGUN-Penultimate week it was, for the indigenes of Aragba-Orogun Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, as both the young and old roll out drums in a grand style to celebrate the Ukwuata festival- A feast that brings majority of the Sons and daughters of the community far and near together. This year’s celebration was agog with different types of live bands, entertaining the large crowd while merriment and other funs go on.

Our Correspondent who moved around the town witnessed uncontrollable crowd as they chant various traditional songs with joy and happiness. The Ukwuata festival which majority of the people believe to be a feast of blessings, peace, harmony and tranquility has remained one of the admirable cultural fiestas in Orogun Kingdom adjudged to be the most peaceful. .
Meanwhile, this year’s celebration witnessed a Royal visitor, HRH, Oba (Barr) Rufus Olanrewaju Ajayi, Ogidi Olu Obagbaja Arilewola 11, Oba of gbomina in Ekiti State, who was pleased to have been part of the feast. The Oba who was received by the Okpara of Ogwa, HRH, Erakpotubor Thomas Okunimah, expressed profound gratitude through the Chiefs, led by the Onotu-Uku .Chief Fidelis Osanebi, who deeply convened the palace gratitude to the Oba. In his response, Oba Ajayi thanked the palace for receiving him, and stressed that he has been a friend with Orogun people for years, and will continue to seek for alliance towards building peace, harmony and development. He praised Aragba people for sustaining their ancestral and forefathers culture.
Meanwhile, Chief Kenneth Enwefah , who spoke on the importance of the festival first gave the coming of Christianity in the Bendel Region to Aragba in 1904, as the King’s residence was the first place the missionaries built their Church. He narrated however that Christianity do not depicts culture but promotes it. “When it comes to Christianity, our people faces it squarely, when it comes to culture, same. The Ukwuata festival is what our community celebrate once in every two years, which all are carried along. The feast is done where we appease the gods to bless our people, our farm produce and seek for cleansing of of the land for good” Enwefah added. He therefore reiterated that Aragba-Orogun people have not relented towards promoting oneness true culture and tradition. On behalf of the Palace once again, we thank you Kabiyesi for leaving your comfort zone to our Community. God will bless your kingdom, he concluded.
Highlight of the celebration was the presentation of two motor cycles (Okada) to the two Okwuata’s dance, donated by the town President-General, Olorogun Barrister Benson Ndakara, presented to them by HRH, Erakpotubor and Oba Ajayi at the palace.
